Located on the west coast of France, Normandy's climate is warm with a fair amount of annual rainfall, resulting in a lush, green countryside. Temperatures are seldom too extreme, but can be unpredictable. The average daytime high during the summer months of May to August is 80°F (27°C), while the weather during the winter months from November to March is relatively mild. August is the hottest month of the year and January is generally the coldest. Despite rumours that it rains non-stop in Normandy, it is neither that common nor rare, but visitors should pack an umbrella no matter what time of year they choose to visit. The weather is extremely changeable, with four seasons frequently making a showing in one day. As the main attractions of the region are historical and militaristic Normandy can be considered a year-round destination for tourists. Summer is peak tourist season for all the coastal regions of France but for those who want to avoid the crowds May (spring) is a good time to visit Normandy, as is September (autumn).
